2. 10 minute delivery – should we ask questions?
I wrote this in February, thanks to Nicheless it’s seeing the light of the day.
With Covid, we adapted from buying from stores to buying almost everything online and getting it home delivered. This was ok (not saying great). We ordered stuff and it reached in 1/2/3 days.
Local kirana wala, a phone call away also got stuff delivered within hours when his runner was free.
So far so good.
But, one fine morning, did you need 250 grams onions RIGHT THEN in 10 minutes or did you need a pack of cookies with your morning tea THEN?
To feel that you have the power to have anything in 10 minutes – may be makes you feel like a genie – feels good?
You feel so good to have exactly your choice of cookie with 4pm tea and don’t have to give in to generic biscuits in pantry at work. You do it a few times - you are hooked.
Is everything disruptive good?
How many users think beyond the convenience of getting something at your door step in 10 minutes?
Does rider spend for fuel?
How much does the rider earn per ride?
Does he get penalized for late delivery?
Is it likely that they drive rash?
Who will take responsibility for an accident?
Is there a minimum commitment of deliveries per day for the rider?
How does the company make money?
How do these companies give such huge discounts?
What is the impact of every ride on the environment (if it’s not something we need)?
Calling a rider 5 times a day for 10 minute delivery
Fuel – emission – carbon – global warming – Armageddon!
Every little thing comes in a full size paper bag – paper – cut trees – global warming – Armageddon!
