Pandemic of troublesomeness (2 of 2)
And speaking of pandemics, all that WFH can't be helping things in terms of self-sorting trends. I realize office life nostalgia to be misguided, but doesn't that sound like a net-loss in terms of keeping us nimble in our ability to coexist?
Seriously, what's left of public life with a real potential for sharing physical spaces with "others"? Public transportation? Doesn't even exist for large swaths of the American public and who in their bubble-protected right mind wants to confine themselves to a passenger cabin of a bus or train with insane people, much less, god forbid, the homeless?
And as if social media hadn't done enough damage, now we're all standing idly by, watching Silicon Valley roll out the next wave of societal skullfuckery that is generative artificial intelligence, with all the e/acc Aspys dreaming of AGI robot girl/boy/whichever-friends that will fill those deep, deep holes in their emotional mindscapes that only technology-animated sex dolls can fill.
I believe we may actually be in serious trouble this time around.
