navigating nutrition
I am currently visiting a friend’s family in Nuremberg. One of the first things I noticed was the lack of healthy food in their kitchen. It’s filled with junk food, sugary snacks, and processed items. You can find unhealthy options everywhere.
This, of course, has a huge impact on their kids' eating behavior. The constant availability of these foods has shaped their eating habits and overall health (they are overweight). They don't seem to have any sense of good nutrition. Their parents don’t address it; instead, they support it, telling them to eat whatever they want.
Of course, they want junk food if that’s what they’re used to. They don’t know any better.
This made me realize two things:
1.) Parents have a huge impact on your behavior. I am extremely thankful that my parents instilled in me a strong sense of nutritional awareness, teaching me to value healthy choices. While I also enjoy the occasional treat, my body soon signals its limits, automatically drawing me toward better options like fresh vegetables or nuts.
2.) The environment matters. If you are surrounded by unhealthy food, you’re going to eat it. Change your environment, and you change your behavior.
