Doing homework is a struggle

My older son (see photo) is starting to have serious homework every day. Serious means: if he did it on time, it would be 30 min max. But he doesn't, so I need to check and check and check.
Today he was playing Minecraft on his laptop... Instead of doing fractions, learning a song for Music class or reading about Egypt.
He finds school boring, unmotivating.
So he lies and tries to skip doing his homework.
It used to reeaallyyyyy piss me off. Now I'm just kinda meh - I decided I cannot expect for him to excell in school. So far, it's about friends... And learning boredom and consistency. It's kinda like the marshmallow game.

(I wonder though what he'll choose to study in university.)
