The weight of 40ºC heat is torture, but that's nothing compared to the endless search for purpose. Ok, that's all the whining for now. Boredom sucks, but it serves a purpose. I managed to write again after months of nothing. I'm not doing it every day, but it'll do for now.
So let's see. I just discovered the work of Esther Wojcicki, a brilliant teacher that learned that you can educate your child to be a successful person by earning their and giving your trust & respect, letting them be independent, and showing them that collaboration is key for growing and learning, while kindness is what makes it all come together. Well, I'm still reading (listening to) the book and that's why I got from it so far. But the weird thing is that I'm thinking too much about my yet inexistent child and how I would raise her (I say her because I can't think of a good name for a son of mine).
I used to think that a parent must be strict and impose discipline. Maybe that's my way of making up for my parents' lack of involvement in my upbringing. I also put too much attention on what and how she would learn, as if I would be living vicariously through her. I've thought a lot about this and it's definitely my way of making up for my own failures.
In any case, it's the most selfish thing I could do and I believe it's what many, if not most, parents do to some degree with their children. In the end doing that takes away a child's opportunity to develop in her own way and ends up doing more harm than good. Ryan Holiday was right: Ego is indeed the enemy.
