Writing saved me
I started writing around 2016. So its been about 6 years now, roughly. I started writing when I was a frustrated, depressed and angry college student. Writing saved me. If I hadn't put pen to paper, I don't know what would have happened to me.
It feels like I am in a similar place in life now. Where I feel the need to write. I lost myself the last few months. I abandoned the craft. I write at work, but I don't think of it as writing. That is my job. I don't want to optimize for revenue or think of the prospects or insert 'Call to Actions' — there is no soul in that sort of writing.
I need to write for myself. I need to bleed on paper.
People ask me — "How do you write?". It is not like I am a great writer. I don't even like to call myself a writer (imposter syndrome). When they ask me how do I write, I just have one answer — I just have to. It is not that I decided one fine day that I should start writing. It was born out of compulsion. I had to do it or I knew I was going to go insane.
One of my favorite quotes: "There is nothing to writing. You just sit at the typewriter and bleed." by Ernest Hemingway.
I relate to this quote deeply. Writing is not glamourous. If you want to write for the glamour you will never make it.
Writing is not for the faint hearted. It is for the damaged, lost and helpless souls.
