Why does doing nothing makes us feel guilty?
We must know that there's a difference between being free and doing nothing. I'm a type of person who keeps track of things, set reminders, and make to-do lists. These are few of the ways to sort out my fucked-up prioritisation.
But there are days, where I've got work to do, targets to complete, goals to fulfil, and I still chose to do 'nothing'. Why? I actually don't know. Maybe cause it doesn't seem important, it doesn't interests me, it seems procrastinable. Procrastinable? Is that even a word? Never mind...This doing-nothing eventually makes me feel guilty and trust me I don't like it.
Why can't I be carefree? I mean, yeah I watched some Netflix in the same browser where I have 17 other tabs open, waiting for my attention, so what?; So what if I scrolled through Instagram knowing that it's not helping me getting shit done? Why do I have to feel bad for this? Everyone does it.
We've connected our happiness and success to our ability to be purposeful, we tend to over-commit. Doing nothing doesn't always means being lazy. I read somewhere about the term 'time-anxiety'. It is "the feeling of there is never enough time and that time slipping away"
So what to do?- You need to figure out what is your definition of "time well spent". Make sure you know exactly what it is that will make you feel satisfied with your time.
You see, our brain is incredible. The more you think about something the more pathways are created for that thought. So start feeding your brain more relaxed and realistic thoughts on time and productivity. Over time you will stop feeling guilty for not doing thousand things in one day, and start feeling much more relaxed.
It works!
