The same gift

“Therefore if God gave them the same gift as he also gave us after believing in the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I to hinder God?” Acts 11.17 NET.

God gave the outpouring of the Holy Spirit to those gathered in Cornelius’s house so that everyone could reach this conclusion: the gospel is for all.

MORE: Cornelius’s conversion would open the door to the Gentiles. God was showing the church that he truly “does not show favoritism in dealing with people, but in every nation the person who fears him and does what is right is welcomed before him” Acts 10.34-35.

Once this was demonstrated, the baptism in the Holy Spirit was no longer needed. The door was now open.
