the night escape
i dust the dirt off myself,
as i walk up the course,
under the light of the sky,
glowing with the stars.
i reach the ridge
and set my eyes free,
to roam from the moon above
to the plain lands beneath.
the breeze closes my eyes,
my hands run through my hair.
the book under my elbow gets
pleasantly risen in the air
i open the notebook,
and take a seat.
i realize it's archaic,
as i turn the crinkly brown leaves.
i move my hands,
gently over the pages,
the book has memories
and carries words of ages.
i stretch my legs and,
lay on the grass.
the book on my chest,
my eyes on the stars.
i turn the pages slowly,
i read my older self,
and notice some letters
that belong to someone else.
i wince at some pages,
i laugh at some,
my lips curl into a smile,
and i sit back numb.
to comprehend the scribblings,
to take in the words,
to devour the photos,
and to study the verse.
the flowers have died,
but the words sit there.
the times have flied,
but the emotions are clear.
the quiet pages scream
stories from the past.
the memories are heavy,
resurfacing in a flash.
i flip through
and glance.
can i go back
by any chance?
i reach the last page,
my eyes shut down.
to see the most beautiful
moment i found.
