Saying, writing and meaning
Imitation game is one of my all time favorite movies. I find this quote prodoundly true.
Alan Turing: When people talk to each other, they never say what they mean, they say something else...
It's interesting how, when someone says something, they actually meaning something else and intend for the listener to understand as something else but then the listener understands it as some other thing.
It seems like our speech (or words in general) is encrypted by default and unlike with information theory here the decryption can and will vary from one recepient to another!
Now that I think of it, its true not just for words but also for all things that we ascribe meaning to.
I once heard an English professor say, that meaning is context bound. I probably understand it better now.
What is profound for one person in one context can be absolute non-sense to the same person or different one in a different context.
