My Tryst With Public Policy
My interest in public policy was piqued during the COVID-19 pandemic. Criticism of government action came thick and fast as governments across the world floundered in the face of an unprecedented crisis. While a lot of it seemed deserved to me, I was also alive to the fact that governments were often between a rock and a hard place. This gave rise to a desire to understand what goes into policy making and acquire lenses through which to view policies. It was in these circumstances that I came across the Takshashila Institution's certificate courses on public policy.
Before proceeding further, let me say that this is not a marketing plug- all that I'm about to say is my independent opinion. I'm guessing this disclaimer gives you an idea of where this is headed. I cannot recommend enough the courses offered by them. There are four specializations offered. You can check them out here: https://school.takshashila.org.in/gcpp. I enrolled for the Advanced Public Policy specialization in the January-April this cohort, which left me so sated that I enrolled for the Tech and Policy specialization in the May-August cohort. I also intend to apply for the Defence and Foreign Affairs specialization in the September-December cohort. This is despite the rigorous course requirements, which coupled with a demanding professional life means I have sacrificed my social life . But as they say, work stops feeling like work when you start loving it. I have no complaints.
Thus far, it has been an extremely humbling experience. The fact that there is so much about the world that we do not understand has been reinforced. Since I'm about to reach the word limit, I intend to devote subsequent posts to detailing my experience and learnings. So, stay tuned!
