Learning to Write
I don't know how to write.
This is my first blog post. For months now, I have agonised over how to write, why anyone would care about my writing and what the hell I would even write about. Over those months, no content has materialised on the paper in front of me.
But why wait? The truth is that nobody cares about your first blog post. All great artists had to paint a first picture. All great chefs had to bake a first cake. You get my point - I bet they weren't great. Only the compounding effect of sustained effort over time can create "overnight success".
Why do I even want to write?
As I try to answer this question now, vague ideas float around in my mind. They vanish as I reach out to them. I cannot fully grasp them, shape them, or bend them to my understanding. It is maddeningly frustrating.
This in itself is why I must learn to write. I must learn to control my own thoughts. To write is to create order out of the chaotic soup of millions of ideas that pass through our minds every day. By learning to write, I will learn to use my voice.
What will I write about?
Who cares? Nobody, for now. I can write about anything. Birds. Bees. It doesn't matter. This is about building a muscle. It's about developing my voice. I will attempt to grab those vague ideas floating around in my mind and to wrestle them onto a page.
First blog post - done.
