Fontaines DC - the best new band I've heard in years
Every some years, a band comes from left field and knocks your socks off. You have no expectation of them, maybe you'd never heard of them before.
Leaving aside the bands of my early growing up years, bands or artists that have had that effect on me have included The Talking Heads, The Stone Roses, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Thievery Corporation and Massive Attack.
Add another name to the list - Fontaines DC.
Last night, at the Olympia in Paris, they were incandescent, possibly transcendent.
They defy easy categorisation, at least by me - best to read a few reviews and try and piece together what they sound like. At times I thought Joy Division, the Clash, the Killers (but better).
Do listen to them. Better still, try and go to a concert.
