(Essay 3/30) Daily life systems 101
Day-3 of my 30 day atomic essay streak.
In essay-2, I wrote about the concept of mindful repetition.
Quick recap: It's a repetition of a simple actions that moves a system towards stability and makes it sophisticated with time.
This sits very well with personal habit formation a.k.a building daily life systems (DLS).
A daily life system (DLS) is a trackable routine based on mindful repetition.
It requires sustained inputs but makes it easy to stick to new habits.
My daily life system (DLS)consists of three trackable routines based on mindful repetition:
- Morning activation:
- Wake up at 4:45am.
- Meditate: 36 chants of "OM". Each chant is a set of 2 full inhalation-exhalation and 1 "OM" chant with waning-plateau-waxing pitch. Each chant takes 45 sec, 36 chants is 108 respirations & 27 mins. It's a mindful repetition of 3.
- Workout: 40 min sessions. Alternate days of plyometrics & weighted cardio super-sets.
I don't measure outcome. I just keep a daily counter to track missed days.
- Top 3 tasks for the day:
- I maintain a daily log with three tables - work, indie-project, personal.
- Each day I call out three top tasks / deliverables to be shipped by EOD or EOW. Depending on status at end of day, I mark them as done or inprogress.
- Consumption:
I try keep my consumption light weight.
This means - food, media & incoming judgements.
This is a work in progress.
a.) Food - Setting up a measurement based home cooked food intake routine.
b.) Media - I avoid reels, Instagram & Facebook. Rather preparing a reading list of hardcopy non-fiction books for 2023. Build a note taking system in Notion to capture running notes from this books.
c.) Incoming judgements - I practice selective socializing.
And, that's a wrap -
Merry Christmas to all !
