🤝 communities & cooperation
In the wild landscapes of our past, our ancestors' very survival depended on coordination, without which they couldn't hunt anything of significance. Somewhere down the line, an important thing started to happen. Men started hunting while the women began foraging, this clear cut division of roles & responsibilities was the cornerstone for a new level of coordination.
Fast forward to the present time, with the coming of the internet, collaboration has now moved online and is beyond borders. The world is starting to act and look like one giant community. This global community sure does have smaller tighter communities within it. Still, these smaller communities work in tandem with each other toward a common goal: a better future - be it a better future for the next generation, a better future for others or even a better future for themselves.
I’ve had the pleasure of working in one of the best startups out there & I’ve seen similarities between how startups & these early human communities work. A startup (or any company for that matter) by definition is a group of people having various roles, each one completely necessary, bringing their unique skillsets to the table & broadly working towards a common goal,
Much like early human communities, these early-stage companies need to make the best of limited resources & persevere in the harshest environments in order to expand out. Like how early humans failed multiple times while expanding out of their homeland in Africa (fact - there were many attempts to leave Africa, but only one group managed to make it out. All non-African humans are descendants of this one group), startups learn from past mistakes and persevere in unknown environments.
Maybe working & persevering together, building for a hopeful future is part of what makes us human 🤝
