As one travels deeper into the sixth decade of life, and settles into the third decade of a rewarding professional career, the prospect of slowing down seems just not attractive, but is inevitable. There was a time when reading and writing were part of my routine. I don't mean the work that was required of me as a student or that which was part of my professional work. I routinely read for pleasure, and I occasionally wrote stuff that was not part of my academic curriculum or my professional work. My love of books has kept the reading habit going strong, but the writing well has dried up. About a decade ago, I tried to get back into regular writing by signing up for one of those 'set a word limit and try to write that much every day' thingies. That somehow didn't last more than a week. There was no motivation. I came across the idea of 'nicheless' by chance a few days ago and it rekindled that spark. I know I write more than three hundred words a day everyday just messaging and gossiping with my friends. Three hundred words are just about the length of thirty or forty messages that I routinely type out in the few active groups that I'm part of. It's not a hard target to achieve. And I like the idea of a stream of consciousness kind of output where I don't need to have a theme or topic. That works very well for my kind of brain. Having a live word counter in the bottom helps too. I know I'm close to achieving the day's target. I'll take this as a positive beginning and go forward. Hopefully, I'll be able to string together some related posts that make sense when read later.
