Building a 'Book of Wisdom'
- Not a second brain
- Not a full-blown PK
- Not even a draft space for articles
It's a place for mindful consumption, storage and meaning making.
The system is inspired by Justin Mikolay's note-taking system, that he considers as a key part to his creative process
3 steps:
- Reading
- Thinking (aka note-taking)
- Writing (aka expression)
Similar to Tiago Forte's CODE framework
C - Capture
O - Organize
D - Distill
E - Express
Only in Justin's scheme fo things, there's little or not effort in organizing (besides tagging individual notes). But he emphasizes a lot on writing one's understanding from the inspired idea that one encountered in one's own word. This process is where, he says, that we start owning the idea.
It's also preparation for bringing out meaningful creative (written) output. These notes serve as lego blocks/ raw materials/ for future projects.
Side effect:
Because of this onus on note-taking, I am slowly becoming a more mindful reader. I rather now more intentional & serious while reading.
But that sort of spoils the fun for light reading as well. I know it shouldn't be that bad, but I'm not sure when to take notes and when to just skim read.
Also it is taking more time while reading. It is taking almost a day to just complete 3-4 articles. That's slow. Really slow.
This means that I should be more mindful of what I'm reading, because as a 'pro', then I cannot afford light reading.
Next step:
It seems a more comfortable route in my note-taking system. Light weight & making me more intentional, without overburdening the system.
I'm actually quite enjoying my reading & taking notes on Notion app. But soon need to find rhythm on desktop app too.
Let's see how it goes!
