A world of one, and then some
Eventually, it's a world of one. I don't mean this in a nihilistic, pessimistic, or even a narcissistic way. I just mean that eventually, it's a world of one. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it does give me the occasional existential crisis.
Now that I'm starting a venture of my own, I'm more empathetic towards other self-employed people online or offline. Now that I'm sitting alone in my room, I think to ask my parents how their day was. Now that I'm having these thoughts, I think about others who must've thought about this. It's me, and then some.
Everything we do is so all-consuming that the world that we're a part of, seems to be outside and on the sidelines. It's almost like this constant need to be 'different' that's causing us to separate ourselves from the rest.
But how amazing is it that there are probably thousands of people that share the same talents as me, love the same kind of things that I do, enjoy the same activities, cry over the same things, and love the same kind of people. Maybe this means that I'm not different but that I belong. And maybe that's not such a bad thing.
It's still a world of one, and then some. But I'm really grateful for the 'some', and with each day I hope it becomes some more.
