A Paragraph

Hi, I'm using these posts to practice writing. Here's a paragraph to start off with. I've never written before so feel free to express your thoughts on how I'm doing.

I don't know where to begin. I can't even imagine how all this started. My first memory is pretty dark. I can recall my mother snuggled up to me for the night, as per our routine. I felt warm, safe and happy... My memory gets foggy after that. I suppose I was too young to remember the finer details. I think my mother left. I'm sure she would've come back if she could. All I feel when I think back to that time is a tightness in my chest and the resistance to let my tears fall.
That's enough about my past for now though. In the present, I work with a doctor. I assist him with nursing his patients back to health. We live in a small town, Notting. Certainly a weird name for such an unremarkable town.

That's all I got for now. I have an idea of my character and her goal though I'm struggling with the worldbuilding. Hope to learn more and grow!
