Time capsules
Every year, either December or our birthday makes us a tad existential.
If not overtly, at least somewhere in our head, we are wrapping up a year gone past us.
We try to evaluate, albeit half-heartedly, how far we've come, where we'd like to go, and so forth.
It is like attempting to gain back the control that we might've lost over a year.
I sense that we tinker with possibilities - the most - around this time.
If the year doesn't go well, we urge ourselves to focus on what went okay. We try to figure out what to do.
Even if momentarily, we think of making another attempt at living differently, a bit ideally, if possible.
And as shallow or weak as that may sound to you, I'd advocate for it.
Because the world changes so quickly with every passing day, it doesn't mean we keep playing catch up.
Because we feel confused or lost so often doesn't mean we shouldn't pause to seek clarity.
Because it is easy to get caught up in mindless comparisons doesn't mean there isn't time for being a bit complacent.
Because every other creator, influencer, and whatnot seems to know better what you should be doing doesn't mean you can't shut them out for some time.
Taking time to wind down is like reaching out to yourself and asking for a prescription.
And coincidentally, I think it's the same prescription for all of us.
Here's the name of the capsule and how often to consume it -
Take some time off x once a month
Center yourself x daily
Allow confusion x occasionally
But as we get into the groove of life, we might skip a few doses now and again, but nothing like a new year to attempt it afresh.
