The first thing I saw was a blue light dancing in the darkness. It was mesmerizing. It moved up and down in a quick rhythmic pattern across the black canvas of my gaze. I felt so safe and sound, wrapped up in my dad's protective leather apron and welding hood. When the blue light stopped flashing and dancing, he lifted the visor from over my face so that I could see the bead of melted metals displaying a cascade of colors that captivated my three-year old mind.
